Dock Relocation Failed

You reached this page because you clicked on a notification from the DockLock App.
That message appeared after the app attempted to relocate the Dock but could not complete the operation within the allowed time.

Why Dock Relocation Is Needed

DockLock relocates the Dock automatically when macOS places it on the wrong screen - for example:

  • After waking your Mac from sleep
  • After connecting or disconnecting external displays
  • When using AirPlay or Sidecar
  • When manually triggering relocation from the app menu

This behavior exists to keep the Dock on your preferred display at all times.

Why Dock Relocation Might Fail

Due to macOS system limitations, there are situations when DockLock cannot move the Dock even though it tries repeatedly at short intervals (the retry interval can be configured in Advanced Settings).

Here are the most common cases:

1. A Menu or Control Center Is Open

DockLock cannot move the Dock while any macOS menu or the Control Center is open.
To allow relocation, close all menus (including Control Center, Wi-Fi, or Sound menus).

2. Mouse Is Moving

DockLock waits until the mouse pointer stops moving for a few seconds before attempting relocation.
This prevents conflicts with user input while macOS determines pointer focus.

How to Help DockLock Relocate the Dock

To ensure the Dock relocates properly after sleep or display changes:

  1. Do not move the mouse for a few seconds after wake or screen rearrangement.
  2. If you are using an AirPlay or Sidecar display, close Control Center immediately after connecting.
  3. Allow the app a few seconds to retry relocation automatically.
